California's insurance commissioner has just launched an investigation into Aetna after learning a former medical director for the insurer admitted under oath he never looked at patients' records when deciding whether to approve or deny care. Insurance companies have an obligation to perform due dilligence. When they fail to do so, they may save money but damage untold numbers of people who thought they were insured and were not able to fight back.
